Hullavington Poets Corner|
Bob Fenner popped in to suggest a possible' Verse to Worse' evening on Thursday 13 Sept. as part of HarFest 2007.
It was thought that it would be an evening of two halves - Poetry readings first, Cabaret style ! (ours or traditional) ,Refreshments , then perhaps a One Act Play.
There was a lot of enthusiasm, and this will go forward for discussion with the whole group next month.
Mays Poet was Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and the subject 'Spring',
The meeting was very depleted through people away, holidays etc, the faithful few however were on form, as usual ! Several 'readings' from Longfellow, interesting poems, and yes we did have an excerpt from 'Hiawatha' !
There were three of our own poems, Alison Ayliffe, Rita Croft and me (Eileen Fry), . Only 2 are on display here as we are still awaiting Alison Auliffe's
The successful Limerick Competition was discussed and suggestion made that it could be an annual event.
A new Chippenham member, Veronica Tanner told us about the 'Poetry Slam' which will be run in Chippenham in conjunction with the Arts Festival in October, more details later.
There is also a National Competition advertised in the local press, that some of our members might be interested in: Entry is free and one overall winner will receive £1,000. send up to three poems of up to 20 lines each, with 160 words, by June 30th, to :- United Press,Admail3735, London,EC1B 1JB . Almost 250 winners are picked every year, they appear in the National Poetry Anthology, (and get a free copy)
